Ortiz visits young patients at MGH

David Ortiz isn’t a big fan of cold weather, but if the Sox slugger has to be in Boston in November, he’d just as soon spend it with the young patients at the MassGeneral Hospital for Children. Thursday, Big Papi, whose David Ortiz Children’s Fund and World Pediatric Project provide pediatric health care to children in New England and the Dominican Republic, dropped by the hospital to “check up on my buddies.” Ortiz talked to the kids, signed autographs, and even played — badly — some ukulele. “To see kids in so much pain. The minute they see me, they forget about the pain,” he said. “It could be one of us tomorrow.” Ortiz will be hosting his annual, celeb-heavy charity golf tourney in the Dominican Republic Dec. 3-6.
